Russian championship:

The teams play playoff system games (up to 11 games).
Quarterfinal and semi-finals are played up to two wins (1+1+1). Final games are played up to three wins (2+2+1).

The games are played from 31-May to 26-June-2002.

Team placed 10th in Russian Championship goes for the next season to Division B. To stay in Division A team placed 9th in Russian Championship plays against 2nd placed team from Division B. They play two matches. The team that loses these games goes for the next season to Division B.
